DISPLACED: Art, Migration and Waste Colonialism
The exhibition brings together five artists: Charlie Phillips OBE, ARU, Ryan Hawaii, Navinder Nangla, and Mr. Darcy – to explore migration, diaspora, cultural identity and waste colonialism.
The exhibition examines parallels between the displacement of people and the global movement of discarded materials, questioning the cultural, environmental and economic systems that determine what is valued and what is abandoned, through photography, painting, textiles, wearable art and reclaimed materials. DISPLACED celebrates the ingenuity, cultural memory and creative resilience of communities whose histories have been shaped by migration and transformation.
Produced by Corrine Bougaard, curated by Darcy Thomas draws on the interdisciplinary artistic and environmental work developed through the Art Ain’t Trash initiative.
